Sportsguards For Children And Teenagers In Blackrock

At Dublin18 Dental Care we provide sportsguards for children and teenagers in Blackrock.  We welcome the ruling of the GAA made last month to make sportsguards compulsory. ‘No sportsguard, No game’.

At Dublin18 Dental Care we have firsthand experience of tooth trauma caused by playing sports without protective sportsguards. Without protective sportsguards the mouth is open to a number of injuries ranging from a chipped tooth to much more serious problems.

Our sportsguards

Our sportsguards are tailor made for each patient to fit the mouth perfectly thus fully protecting the teeth on impact. They are also very comfortable and easy to use.  They come in a wide range of varieties from single to multiple colours.  Further, our sportsguards, can be customized to your liking with your own name, for that added individuality.

Protect your son or daughter’s teeth

You will require an appointment for an impression of the teeth; then we will have the sportsguard made by our lab technicians for collection the next day.  So, if parents in Blackrock are concerned that the new ruling by the GGA is starting to take immediate effect in their sons/daughters schooling, feel free to contact Dublin18 Dental Care for an appointment.

Patients Near Dublin18 Can Protect Their Teeth During A Family Christmas With Our Mouthguards

Accidents and injuries can happen to anyone at any time and at this time of year, the last thing you want is to be spending your Christmas sitting in a hospital waiting room or suffering unbearable pain. At Dublin18 Dental Care near Dublin18 we want all our clients to have a very merry Christmas and we are encouraging sportsmen and people who grind their teeth at night to take advantage of our bespoke mouth guards.

Mouthguards for sport

Sport is great fun and it has a host of health benefits, but it can also be very dangerous, especially for your teeth, so we advise patients who regularly participate in dangerous or contact sports to wear a protective mouth guard. Mouth guards are designed to provide protection for the teeth to prevent injuries caused by falling or impact from balls or other hard objects. Sports that require mouth guards include rugby, hockey, lacrosse, boxing and ice hockey. Our mouth guards are custom-made for each patient to give a great fit.

Mouthguards for teeth grinding

Teeth grinding is a major cause of damage to the enamel and tooth structure and it can also cause headaches and jaw pain. Most people who clench or grind their teeth do so at night and this means that they are unaware that they are even doing it. We provide custom-made night guards to prevent the teeth from coming into contact with each other, thus preventing damage to the biting surfaces of the teeth and the muscles around the jaw joint.

Christmas is a time for relaxing and spending time with friends and family, not for worrying about injuries and pain, so why not contact us to find out more about our mouth guards. The treatment process is very simple, there is no pain involved and it is always better to be safe than sorry. Wearing a mouth guard gives you peace of mind, as well as protection, leaving you free to make the most of the festive season. Mouthguards for All Round Protection for Patients from Dublin18

Mouthguards can be used for a number of reasons, from protection during contact sport to treating the pain of teeth grinding. Here at Dublin18 Dental care we offer a range of mouth guards to suit individual patient’s needs, which includes:

Nightguards

Many people suffer from teeth grinding for a number of reasons, with anxiety and stress being a main cause of teeth grinding for patients from Dublin18. Patients often grind their teeth at night so are unaware of such behaviour until symptoms of teeth grinding occur, such as a painful jaw and flattening of the teeth.

A nightguard is worn throughout the night whilst the patient sleeps so that if teeth grinding does occurs the teeth and jaws are protected. A nightguard doesn’t solve the problem of why you are teeth grinding but it does stop you causing yourself more harm and injury.

Sports

Aggressive contact sports such as rugby and boxing require mouthguards in order to stop any harm or injury from occurring if the person is hit in the mouth or face. Dental injuries can be very severe if a mouthguard is not worn whilst taking part in contact sports. There could be tooth loss or tooth breakage, which can lead to costly dental treatment in the long run.

Essix Retainers

Essix retainers are made from completely clear plastic and are used after braces have been taken off to prevent the teeth moving back to their old position. Essix retainers are incredibly strong, keeping your teeth in place while you sleep. As well as wearing your Essix retainer during the night they should also be worn for around 4 hours during the daytime, however, they are very comfortable and clear, so no one will be able to see them.

It is very important that you wear your retainer after orthodontic treatment to ensure that your post treatment positioning remains in place and doesn’t revert back to the way they were prior to the treatment.

Mouthguards are Available at Dublin18 Dental Care for People in Leopardstown

You don’t have to be a professional boxer or rugby player to need a mouthguard. In fact you don’t need to be interested in sport at all, as mouthguards of different shapes and designs can be used for many different purposes. Whatever the reason you need a mouthguard, the staff at Dublin18 Dental Care will be able to give you advice and information before you make your decision.

Quite a number of the enquiries we receive about mouthguards are from patients who grind their teeth while asleep. This is not just an annoying habit, but something that can cause problems with oral health further down the line. Often people don’t even realise they are grinding their teeth, until a new partner mentions it or they decide to try and find out just why they always have such a sore mouth in the morning. Specially-designed mouthguards can be worn at night to prevent damage to both the teeth and jaw. Mouthguards are comfortable to wear and many people get used to wearing their mouthguard at night within just a few days.

Anyone who has had orthodontic work done at Dublin18 Dental Care near Leopardstown will be given a retainer to wear once their braces are removed to make sure that their newly-straightened teeth don’t slip back into their old positions. An Essex retainer is different to the usual style and is more like a mouthguard, made of moulded plastic, which is comfortable to wear and easy to remove and maintain. Patients who are given an Essex retainer should wear it every night and for at least four hours each day, to make sure that they keep their new smile looking as straight as possible.

However, we do still get many enquiries from sportsmen and women about mouthguards that will protect them during their chosen activity and a lot of the time it is parents who are concerned about the safety of a child who has just started playing rugby at school or taken up boxing. Any sport that involves significant physical contact could require participants to wear a mouthguard, in order to protect their teeth in the event of an accidental or, in the case of boxing, deliberate blows to the mouth.
