Children’s dental checks
Children’s dental checks are really important, not just for identifying possible danger signs of cavities, but also to enable us to keep an eye on tooth growth and development. We recommend regular check-ups for patients of all ages and we always look forward to seeing our younger patients. Ideally, we like to see children every 6 months from the age of 12-24 months.
Some people assume that dental checks aren’t important for children because their milk teeth are supposed to fall out anyway, but this is not the case and routine check-ups are essential for good oral health. Children who visit a dentist on a regular basis are less likely to suffer from decay and lose their teeth prematurely, which reduces the risk of problems during adulthood and orthodontic issues.
What happens during a check-up?
Check-ups are straightforward and painless and they only take a few minutes. We strive to ensure that our check-ups for kids are really fun and we understand that some of our smaller patients can be a little apprehensive. Our dentists and nurses are very friendly and lively and they will do everything they can to help children settle and ensure they enjoy their time at Dublin18 Dental Care.
During a check-up, the dentist will have a good look at the child’s teeth, check their gums and tongue and record any changes in their notes. As children’s teeth are still growing and milk teeth are falling out and being replaced with adult teeth, it’s important to take note of differences from the last check-up and keep an eye on the alignment of the teeth and the development of the adult teeth. Our dentists also look out for early warning signs of tooth decay and cavities and they are able to provide advice for adults and children about teeth cleaning and diet.
