Over time dentistry has become more and more sophisticated, and recognising that we are all different, a variety of dental appliances for different conditions have been developed. Many years ago misaligned teeth were normally treated by using the one appliance that was available, but now there are a number that have been created.

From braces to aligners

We have braces that work in the traditional way by using wires, blocks and bands. There are the traditional metal ones, but also there are ceramic ones which are a colour closer to the shade of tooth enamel. A clear version is also available which has brackets made from a clear dental material. There are braces which fit onto the inside of your teeth so that they are not visible and self-ligating braces work slightly differently and do not need bands.

A new concept was introduced onto the market some years back which has revolutionised the treatment of certain dental misalignment conditions. Invisalign Dublin works differently to traditional braces and resembles a gum shield.

Invisalign invokes the latest technology and we can show you a virtual picture of your smile after treatment, before treatment has even begun! Using the latest technology we are able to create a comprehensive picture of the entire interior of your mouth. We send this information, using Invisalign’s technological equipment, to a laboratory where they create the aligners required to provide your treatment. They send a series of trays, which look like gum shields to us. Each tray has a slightly different orientation designed to gently move your teeth into the desired location. You must wear the trays for at least twenty-three hours per day, but you can remove them so that you can eat, drink and brush your teeth. Depending on your condition, treatment can last anywhere from six months to a year.

At the end of treatment, your smile is revealed

At the end of the treatment you will need to wear one final aligner for a few weeks to allow your teeth to settle. After this period you can reveal your radiant, confident smile to your family and friends around the world.
