It doesn’t erase wrinkles

While it is a treatment to smoothen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, you could be forgiven for thinking Botox Dublin fills in the wrinkles in the same way that fillers do.

What it actually does is temporarily freeze the nerves and muscles in your face, thus preventing them from contracting and deepening the fine lines and wrinkles that are already present.

So, many people who undergo the treatment see it as more of a preventive procedure than a restorative one.

It isn’t permanent (sorry!)

Sadly, there is no aesthetic treatment that is permanent.

And, when it comes to having botulinum toxin injections, the longevity of the results is on average between 3-6 months. However, some factors can shorten or even lengthen its effectiveness.

If you are a smoker or you regularly sunbathe, these activities can shorten how long the effects of this treatment remain. There is also evidence that points to the location of the injections impacting on longevity; around the eyes is one of the shorter-lived locations whereas injections to the cheeks tend to have effects that last longer. Your age at the time of administering the injections will also play a part in how long they last, with older individuals needing more regular top-ups of this procedure.

There is some aftercare

Botulinum injections do require some aftercare to ensure that the procedure is effective.

For 24-48 hours post-injection, you must avoid extended periods of time in the sun, smoking or drinking and applying pressure to your face. No wearing makeup, no facial massages and you should sleep with your head elevated for at least 3 days after you have had the injections.
