Back To School Check-Ups For Children Near Ballsbridge

The school holidays are in full swing and what better time to organise your child’s next dental check-up. The summer holidays are the ideal time to schedule a routine check-up for your children, with no need to worry about them missing school or having to organise time off work to take them at short notice.

We recommend 6 monthly check-ups for children from a very early age so that they are able to get used to the sights and sounds of the dental surgery and get to know their dentist. During the check-up, the dentist will have a little chat with the child and answer any questions they have and then examine the child’s mouth.

Why are check-ups so important for children?

Check-ups are important for patients of all ages; they enable dentists to keep tabs on the patient’s oral health and address any problems as early as possible. Decay and gum disease, the most common oral diseases, get worse with time and early intervention can help to stop the progression and prevent pain and the need for further treatment.

Tooth decay is very common in children and regular check-ups enable dentist to spot the early signs of cavities and treat decay before the situation gets worse; this prevents children from suffering sensitivity and toothache and reduces the risk of painful abscesses and dental infections.

Orthodontic problems are also fairly common in children and dentists are able to monitor the development of the teeth and the jaw and suggest an appropriate course of action; often, early treatment is preferable because orthodontic problems get worse with time and it is usually best to intervene when children are still fairly young.

If you would like to book a check-up for your child during the summer holidays, contact out friendly reception team today at Dublin18 Dental Care near Ballsbridge.

Check-Ups For New Patients Near Blackrock

At Dublin18 Dental Care we firmly believe that prevention is better than cure and we recommend regular dental check-ups. We use a 13-point plan to provide our clients with a thorough dental health check.

Checks for new patients

We look forward to meeting new patients and the first appointment gives us a chance to have a look at your teeth, discuss any needs or preferences you have and record details of your dental and medical history. Before your dentist checks your teeth, they will ask you about your medical history and discuss any dental treatment or problems you have had in the past; they will then examine your mouth and have a close look at your teeth and gums. The check-up is nothing to worry or be scared about; it simply allows your dentist to have a look in your mouth, check for any changes to your oral health and identify any symptoms or potential warning signs that may need addressing.

What happens during a dental check?

We use a 13-point plan for all our patients, which includes mouth cancer screening, checking the salivary glands and the tongue, looking for signs of decay and gum disease, checking the arrangement and alignment of the teeth and looking at the jaw joint. We will also discuss any issues, which may be relevant, such as oral hygiene, tackling problems that you may bring up, such as tooth discolouration or bad breath. If you need treatment following your check-up, this will be arranged by the reception team; if you don’t need any treatment, you will be advised to return for your next routine check-up 6 months later.

Why are check-ups so important?

Check-ups are important because they reduce the risk of dental diseases and ensure that you have strong, healthy teeth and gums and that you are free from pain, sensitivity and inflammation. Check-ups are our way of ensuring that any problems are detected and treated as early as possible, which saves you pain, as well as money. A check-up is very quick and it is also painless, but it really can make the world of difference to your oral health. Contact the team today at Dublin18 Dental Care near Blackrock to arrange your first check-up.

Whether you have broken a tooth or you’ve had your tooth knocked out, we are here to help and once you have contacted the practice we will do everything we can to see you and make you comfortable as quickly as possible.

Dental emergencies

Common types of dental emergency include broken teeth, chipped teeth, dislodged teeth, severe tooth pain, jaw fractures and facial injuries and dental abscesses. Common causes of dental injuries include sports injuries, fighting, trips and falls and random accidents; dental abscesses are often a result of poor oral hygiene and bacterial infection.

What to do if you’ve experienced a dental emergency

If you suddenly experience severe dental pain, you think you’ve broken a tooth or you suffer an accident, which results in dental injuries, contact the practice and we will try to arrange an appointment as quickly as possible. Our aim is to ease any pain as soon as possible and once one of our dentists has examined your mouth and asked you a few questions, they will be able to discuss treatment options with you.

Treatment for a broken tooth

If you have a broken tooth you may find that your tooth is tender and painful, especially if you try to bite down on it or chew food. When you see your dentist they will X-ray your mouth to check the extent of the damage and confirm a diagnosis; they will then discuss the treatment options with you, which may include a filling, a crown or in very severe vases, when the tooth is damaged beyond repair, extraction.

Emergency dental appointments at Dublin18 Dental Care

In addition to urgent appointments during office hours, we also offer out of hours appointments. When you ring the practice, you will be directed to our emergency mobile phone. Emergency care is also available to non-patients at Dublin18 Dental Care near Deansgrange.

We Are Emergency Dentists Near Cornelscourt

At Dublin18 Dental Care near Cornelscourt we know that accidents can happen at any time and we provide emergency appointments to ensure that our clients get the treatment they need as quickly as possible.

We offer urgent dental care and we try to arrange appointments as soon as possible. The aim is to reduce pain and other symptoms very quickly and make sure that patients are as comfortable as possible.

Examples of dental emergencies

Dental emergencies are fairly common and they range from injuries and trauma-related problems to severe tooth pain and dislodged teeth.

Tooth pain and abscesses

Abscesses can be very painful and it is best to treat them as early as possible to prevent pain. Dental abscesses can only be treated by dentists; the aim is to reduce pain as quickly as possible and to drain the abscess and prevent further infection. Severe tooth ache is often symptomatic of decay or another dental problem and we will examine the mouth to determine the cause and decide the best course of action.

Dislodged tooth

If your tooth is dislodged as a result of a sports injury or an accident, we may be able to save the tooth. If you tooth is knocked out, try to find it and call us immediately; we will try to arrange an appointment as soon as possible; in the meantime, clean the tooth (hold it by the crown, rather than the root) and then hold it between the gum and the cheek or place it in a glass of milk. If you manage to get to us quickly, we may be able to re-implant the tooth; do not try and do this yourself, as you may cause more damage.

Jaw fracture

If you have severe pain in your jaw or you are struggling to move the jaw, you may have a fracture; if this is the case, you should visit your nearest Accident and Emergency department and you will be sent for an X-ray to determine firstly, whether there is a break and secondly, how bad the fracture is.

Restorative Treatments Near Dublin18 Village

Restorative treatments are very common; they are designed to strengthen weak or damaged teeth or to replace missing teeth. At Dublin18 Dental Care near Dublin18 Village we use the highest quality materials to produce bespoke restorations, which provide excellent aesthetics and enhanced durability.

Dental bridges

Dental bridges are a popular tooth replacement treatment; they are usually used to replace a single missing tooth. A dental bridge is made of a false tooth, which is anchored by crowns. Dental bridges can be made from many different materials; ceramic bridges tend to be very popular because they look like natural teeth. There are different types of dental bridge and the type of bridge used is generally determined by the location of the missing tooth and the strength of the surrounding teeth; the most commonly used type of bridge is a traditional fixed bridge. If there are teeth on one side of the missing tooth only, a cantilever bridge is usually used; if the front tooth is missing, a Maryland bridge may be the best option.

Crowns

Crowns, also known as caps, are a form of restoration, which may be recommended if you have damaged your tooth as a result of trauma or injury or your tooth is decayed. The crown fits over the top of the natural tooth and it is designed to protect the tooth from further damage and improve the function of the tooth. Crowns can be made from metal or ceramic material; porcelain crowns are very popular because they blend in with the colour of the natural teeth.

Before a crown is fitted, the tooth has to be prepared; this is done to ensure that al the decayed or damaged tooth structure is removed and the tooth is clean and infection-free before the new crown is placed. Crowns are custom-made for the individual patient to ensure that they fit over the natural tooth perfectly.

In The News; Children Wait Up To Three Years For Dental Care With The National Health Services In Ireland

If you like to keep abreast of the news or you have a specific interest in health news, you may have seen a recent article about waiting lists for children’s dental care in Ireland. Since the HSE announced significant cuts in the dental budget, the Irish Dental Association has warned that children are missing out on the care they need, with some forced to wait for up to three years for treatment. Dental experts have warned politicians that cutting back now will increase costs in the future, as well as leading to a decline in standards of oral health. At Dublin18 Dental Care we firmly believe that prevention is better than cure and we feel very strongly that children’s oral health should be a priority.

Why is children’s dental health so important?

It’s easy to assume that oral health is not important for children because their first set of teeth are supposed to fall out, but the fact is that oral health is extremely important for children. Problems such as decay, cavities and gum disease cause children unnecessary pain and children with dental problems may experience difficulty at school. If they are in pain, it may be hard for them to concentrate and if they lose teeth early or they have damaged or decayed teeth, this may affect their confidence.

The milk teeth are supposed to fall out, but if they drop out prematurely or they have to be extracted early as a result of decay, this often causes problems in later life, such as poor tooth alignment, which may require orthodontic treatment.

At Dublin18 Dental Care we aim to promote good oral health from an early age and encourage parents and children to visit on a regular basis for a quick check-up. It is helpful for children to get used to going to the dentist as early as possible, not just for their health, but also so that they get used to having regular check-ups.

If you have any questions about your child’s oral health or you would like to find out more about children’s dentistry at Dublin18 Dental Care near Foxrock, please do not hesitate to contact us!
