Hygienist Visits For All The Family Near Glenageary

Dental hygiene is the foundation of good oral health and we actively promote hygiene treatments and good oral hygiene at home. Our expert hygienists provide a comprehensive range of services, including cleaning treatments, advice about oral hygiene and nutrition and preventative dental services.

Why would I visit a dental hygienist?

In some cases you may be advised to see a dental hygienist by your dentist but you can also make appointments without a referral. Many patients enjoy the feeling of an intensive cleaning treatment and hygiene sessions help to reduce the risk of decay and gum disease. If you have symptoms of gum disease, you have been diagnosed with gum disease and you suffer from bad breath, your dentist will work with the dental hygienist to arrange your treatment plan and you will be advised to attend regular hygiene sessions. The aim of cleaning treatments is to remove plaque, tartar and bacteria from the mouth and reduce the risk of infection.

Dental hygiene for all the family

The whole family can benefit from a visit to the dental hygienist. Our hygienists provide preventative treatments for children and cleaning treatments for adults, which leave the teeth gleaming and glossy and the breath fresh and clean. Our hygienists can also offer advice about choosing oral hygiene products, flossing and brushing, healthy eating and giving up smoking.

If you would like to find out more about our dental hygiene services, call us today at Dublin18 Dental Care near Glenageary!

Fixed Orthodontics For Children And Teenagers Near Ballsbridge

Nowadays, there is a great deal of emphasis on the new breed of orthodontic treatments, with many people opting for invisible braces and removable aligners, but fixed braces are still very popular and they have successfully treated thousands of people over the course of several decades. Fixed braces remain a very popular choice for children and teenage patients and modern braces have a wealth of benefits for younger patients.

About fixed braces

Fixed braces are made up of brackets and wires, which generate forces to move the teeth over the course of time. In most cases, treatment with fixed braces takes at least 12 months but the exact treatment time is dependent on the complexity of the orthodontic prescription and the amount of movement required.

Fixed braces are attached to the teeth and they can only be removed by a dentist; once they are in place, the treatment process is very simple and all you have to do is attend regular check-ups. Occasionally, the braces may be adjusted or tightened.

Fixed braces are beneficial because they are suitable for patients with a wide range of orthodontic problems and they are a great choice for those with complex needs, as they provide a lot of support and bring about much more movement than some of the more popular cosmetic systems.

Are fixed braces painful?

Fixed braces have a bad name because they don’t look that attractive and people assume that they are very painful, but modern braces are much more delicate than older styles and you can choose from different colours. When you first have braces fitted it is normal for them to feel tight and painful, but you will be advised to take painkillers and the pain should subside once your mouth starts to adjust to the braces; you may also experience discomfort when you have your braces tightened, but again this should subside quickly. Contact the team at Dublin18 Dental Care near Ballsbridge for more information about children’s orthodontics.

Importance Of Regular Check Ups For Back To School Children Near Donnybrook

We strongly recommend regular dental check-ups for all our patients, including children. Dental checks are really important for children because their mouths change quickly over a short space of time. It is beneficial for dentists to monitor these changes and check for early warning signs of decay and orthodontic problems.

What happens during a check-up?

Check-ups are quick and simple and there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Our team at Dublin18 Dental Care near Donnybrook has many years of experience in treating patients of all ages and they do everything they can to make going to the dentist fun for children. We understand that the surgery can be a scary place for young patients and we go the extra mile to make the experience enjoyable and stress-free.

During a check up, a dentist will examine the child’s mouth thoroughly, take a look at their tongue, gums and cheeks and check their teeth. Your child’s notes will contain information about the development of their teeth and notes about any potential problems or changes in the mouth; each check-up will be recorded and any changes will be jotted down.

If your child needs further treatment after a check-up a follow-up appointment will be scheduled; if their teeth are fine, another check-up will be arranged for 6 months time.

Why are check-ups important for children?

Check-ups are very important for children because they allow dentists to monitor the child’s oral health and identify any problems as early as possible; this means that issues can be addressed before they get to the stage where they could cause the child pain and discomfort. Taking a child to the dentist on a regular basis from an early age allows them to get used to the sights and sounds of the dental practice and increases their chance of enjoying good oral health.

Emergency Dental Treatment For Patients Near Bray

We all know that accidents can happen when you least expect them and this is why we offer urgent dental appointments at Dublin18 Dental Care near Foxrock Village. If you have a dental emergency, contact us and we will try and see you and relieve any pain you have as quickly as possible.

Dental emergencies

Unfortunately, dental emergencies are fairly common and examples include broken and severely chipped teeth, abscesses and severe dental pain and dislodged teeth.

Often, severe dental pain is associated with injuries, which may be impossible to prevent, but if you’ve had toothache for a while and pain has been getting steadily worse, there is a good chance that you may have a decayed tooth. If you have toothache, sensitivity or you have symptoms of gum disease, such as bleeding and swollen gums, see your dentist; don’t put it off because the situation will get worse.

What to do in a dental emergency

If you have an accident, or you suffer an injury when playing sport and you need urgent dental treatment, contact the practice and the reception team will arrange an appointment for you as soon as possible.

If you have a dislodged tooth, it may be possible for us to save it if you can get to the practice fast enough. In the meantime, hold the tooth between the gum and cheek or place it in a glass of milk. Avoid touching the tooth by the root.

Preventing dental emergencies

Sometimes it is impossible to prevent injuries and accidents, but there are some things you can do to try and reduce your risk of dental injuries, including wearing a protective mouth guard when you play sport, going for regular dental check-ups and seeing your dentist if you have any symptoms, such as tooth pain or sensitivity.

A Permanent Solution To Missing Teeth For Patients Near Monkstown

Adult teeth are designed to last a lifetime, but sometimes, the teeth are lost prematurely through injury, decay or as a result of illness. If you lose a tooth or a number of teeth, this affects the aesthetic of your smile, as well as your ability to carry out everyday functions, such as chewing and biting, and it is advisable to replace missing teeth. There are various options for replacing lost teeth, including dental bridges, dentures and dental implants.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a very effective, long-term treatment for missing teeth. Dental implants are made from titanium and they are designed to sit in the jawbone to replace the root of the missing tooth. As the implants are made from titanium, they are able to integrate into the bone tissue in a process known as osseointegration.

One of the major benefits of dental implants is that they are able to anchor a wide range of restorations, which means that they can replace any number of lost teeth.

The treatment process

Dental implant treatment takes several months, as it takes time for the implants to integrate into the bone. During the first stage of treatment, the implants will be placed into the pre-drilled sockets in the jawbone. The implants are then left to settle and the restoration is attached several months later when the implant has integrated fully. Before treatment begins, your dentist will carry out tests and X-rays to check that you are a suitable candidate for treatment. In some cases, where there is a shortage of bone tissue in the jaw, it may be necessary to build up the tissue through bone grafting.

What are the benefits?

Dental implants are very impressive, in terms of function and aesthetics; the teeth look natural and the restorations are anchored very firmly, which improves function. Implants also last for many years and they help to reduce bone loss. If you would like to find out more about dental implants contact the team at Dublin18 Dental Care near Monkstown.

At-Home Teeth Whitening For Patients Near Seapoint

Over the course of time, general wear and tear can take its toll on your teeth and you may start to notice that your teeth become discoloured, especially if you are fond of a latte in the morning or a cup of tea before bed. Drinking strongly coloured drinks, such as coffee and red wine, smoking and neglecting your oral hygiene can all cause the whiteness of your teeth to fade, but there is a solution. At Dublin18 Dental Care near Seapoint we pride ourselves on offering the best treatments and our home whitening kits are guaranteed to give you a beautiful, gleaming smile.

How does home whitening work?

We recommend a two-week home treatment, which uses EU standard carbamide peroxide gels, to bleach the teeth and give you a gorgeous, white smile. The beauty of home whitening is that you can get the look you want in the comfort of your own home; all you have to do is wear your tailor-made whitening tray for 2 weeks at home (most people prefer to wear the tray at night so that treatment does not alter their normal daily routine).

Home whitening is advantageous because it produces great results without the need for top-up treatment shortly after the original whitening session, which is the case with some in-chair treatment.

How long will the results last?

The results of treatment should last a long time, but this is dependent on your diet, your oral hygiene routine and whether you smoke. It is easy to top up your treatment at any time to prolong the results.

If you would like to find out more about our home whitening kits, call the practice today! A whiter, brighter smile awaits!

We Offer Invisalign Braces For Patients Near Blackrock

Have you always wanted a straight smile but been put off having treatment because you don’t want metal train-tracks? If you long for a beautiful, straight smile but you can’t face wearing fixed braces, we may have the ideal solution: Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is one of the world’s leading invisible aligner systems. Rather than using braces made from brackets and wires to move the teeth, Invisalign employs a series of bespoke aligners to gradually reposition and align the teeth. The aligners are light and removable and the best thing is that they are made from transparent plastic, which makes them virtually invisible; this means that you can smile during treatment without worrying about flashing a big metal brace.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses a series of aligners, which are all slightly different. The shape of the aligners and the forces generated by the components causes the teeth to move into the correct position. Each aligner is worn for 2 weeks before being replaced with the next aligner in the series; this continues until treatment is complete.

Invisalign aligners are removable, but it is important that they are worn for a minimum of 21 hours per day. They should really only be removed to eat, drink and clean your teeth, but you can also take them out if you are desperate to look your best for a party or special celebration.

Who can benefit from Invisalign?

Invisalign is a versatile treatment, which is suitable for patients with minor and moderate orthodontic needs. It can be used to correct problems with the bite, moderate crowding, spaces between the teeth and crooked teeth and it is an ideal option for patients who are looking for a discreet solution.  Get in touch with the team at Dublin18 Dental Care near Blackrock for more information.
